At sensible home volumes sounds a bit thin.ģ. Sounds great but only if you get the master up to wall shaking volume. Can be played at very low volume but dynamics remain the same, and a bit flat, regardless of volume.Ģ. Marshall DSL20C, silent mode, emulated out (softube), Laney IRT-Xġ. Marshall DSL20C, 10 watt mode, internal speaker (greenback, not broken in yet)ģ. Amplifire, Brit 800 amp model, Ownhammer Basketweave GNR IR, Laney IRT-XĢ. It just feels magic to play through and responds exactly as you would expect a valve amp to.Įquipment: Marshall DSL20C combo, Atomic Amplifire, Laney IRT-Xġ. I switched to an amp and loadbox setup (Friedman PT20 & Suhr reactive load IR) this year and it just sounds and feels way better to me. I was never fully satisfied with any of them in some respect. I’ve used modellers for the last 6 years or so, I’ve had all the big hitters.

Is an amp + loadbox into studio monitors much different than using a modeller? Seems like an HX stomp, Boss GT core or even a venerable old Atomic Amplifire 6 might be a better buy? I don’t really fully understand the tech but it feels and sounds superb. I believe this is down to him matching the impedance curve in the box to the in built Suhr Celestion IR’s. It seems John Suhr went to great lengths to get his box to sound and feel as realistic as possible. So I quickly moved the Captor X on and after a bit of research went for the Suhr reactive load. It was kind of like playing through a high end modeller. It sounded okay but not great, also the feel wasn’t quite right. so I thought it was a no brainier to go for the Captor X to use with my Friedman DS mini and more recently my Friedman PT20. I really liked the in built Two notes Captor reactive load that is integrated into the Revv D20 and G20 amps, it sounds and feels stellar. I can only speak from experience as I’ve owned both the Captor X and Suhr reactive load IR. Speaking from a position of almost complete ignorance It might be but how much difference is there between different IR processing? Surely the biggest difference is in the IR itself. Ask Henning Pauly.Īpart from the Suhr Reactive Load IR which is better -)

I not gonna lie, The captor X is the best thing in the market.
